Integrating Pixar into the show 'Once Upon A Time'

The show I’ve been into lately is Once Upon A Time. It’s a fantasy drama produced by ABC, and the basic premise is that fairytale characters loosely based on the Disney interpretations have been transported from their realm, the enchanted forest, to our world in an enchanted town called “Storybrooke”. The Evil Queen (of Snow White Fame) created that curse that wiped everyone's memories and placed them within the town in positions that make them miserable, wiping away all happy endings.

Once Upon A Time is an ABC Fantasy drama
featuring fairy tale characters in a modern setting.
It's been my recent TV binge and while I love the
Disney references, I do think there were opportunities
for Pixar properties to be represented in some capacity.

I’m only 3 seasons in at this point (though I hear it falls apart after the fourth) but already I’ve been wondering how to integrate Pixar movies into the story with the more classical Disney characters. As you know by now, Pixar is my life and so adding Pixar to this franchise is definitely something I’d like to try. So below I present: Pixar in Once Upon A Time.

I’ll be considering all of these as season 1 introductions unless otherwise stated, so I’ll show you what they would be like in the town of Storybrooke and what they were like in the Enchanted Forest.

Now I understand that the show, for all intents and purposes, is over and there's no chance of re-doing it anytime soon. So this is purely a retroactive speculation. A weird way to live, I know, but I wanna do this so here it is.

Toy Story:

Woody and Buzz are the representation from the Toy Story franchise (because really, they have to be). Now in the show, fan favorite characters that are portrayed as inanimate objects are just that. Inanimate objects. Notably Chip from Beauty and the Beast. So I think Woody and Buzz would just end up being easter egg characters in Mr. Gold’s shop or in a playroom somewhere.

At the beginning of Season 2, Magic returns to the town of Storybrooke, giving new life and returning the character’s memories. But since Jimminy Cricket is still a human, I don’t think Woody and Buzz would ever move past easter egg status based on the rules of the show.

I can see Pizza Planet being the big pizza chain of the show too. Like when Pizza night comes along it comes in a Pizza Planet box. But as far as a full episodic appearance of Toy Story, I don't think so.

A Bug’s Life:

Atta, Flik, and Hopper will be represented here.

In StoryBrooke, Atta is a general manager of a department store. She’s always stressed out and in a dead-end job with no real opportunity to move forward. Flik is a landscaper who’s a bit too afraid to really get out of line. Hopper fares a bit better, becoming the leader of a biker gang who terrorize and harass Flik specifically and Atta especially.

In the Enchanted Forest, their roles will be similar to the movie. Jimminy Crickett would unsuccessfully try to bring Hopper back to the light at some point, Atta would be part of the community of Queens and Princesses, held on equal ground as Snow White and Cinderella as the representatives of the insect kingdom, and Flik would be a great inventor who works well with the likes of Gephetto. I imagine that Ruplestilksin would have a lot of interest in Flik, seeing as how his mechanical knowledge is actually pretty far advanced over the rest of the magic realm.

Monsters Inc.

Mike and Sully are the representatives.

In Storybrooke, Sully works in a low level job in a factory. It’s tough manual labor. Mike works under a terrible boss and whenever he tries to take initiative he is brought back down. He and Sully are not best friends in Storybrooke.

In the Enchanted Forest, Mike and Sully are from a realm of monsters, and yeah. Human screams make power. Mike and Sully did discover that laughter is a more powerful magic and fear is a dark magic in use by people like the Evil Queen and Rumplestilskin (and Randall, who is one of Mr. Gold’s throwaway henchmen in the town of Storybrooke).

Cars:

Just an easter egg. There aren’t really “cars” in the Enchanted Forest, just like there aren’t cowboys and spacemen.

In this case, I’d imagine that Mater would be used as the actual tow truck of Storybrooke. That’s as far as that goes.

Finding Nemo:

Marlin, Nemo, and Dory.

In Storybrooke, Marlin’s fate is he has to take care of his parapalegic son Nemo. Dory is a patient at the Psychiatric Ward that Belle was kept at for a while.

In The Enchanted Forest, Their adventure basically is unchanged. It all still works that way. Since they are just small, individual fish, I don’t believe they’d actually have any interaction with anyone in a major way.

The Incredibles

Superheroes don’t exist in the Enchanted Forest. Another Easter Egg Character. Whatever way they interacted with the Enchanted Forest, it would not have been in any way similar to the true form characters.

Ratatouille

Reme is our only representative from this movie.

Reme would have an interaction with Cinderella, helping her to cook specifically. He would end up being the dish washer in the town of Storybrooke. After the initial part of the curse is broken and he gets his memories back, Reme would go on a personal quest through season 2 building his own high-end restaurant that would become the romantic go-to spot for the other characters.

Wall-E

Easter eggs. Their fantasy counterparts would, again, not be close. Perhaps the department store of the town is a Buy N' Large?

Up

Kevin the bird would exist as a mythical creature in the enchanted forest.

Brave

The Easiest of the bunch to integrate. Everyone from the movie could potentially be present. Merida’s mother would have a certain special relationship with Red over their similar curses and Merida herself would be on-par with Robin Hood.

Merida would not end up in Storybrooke. She’d be one of the few to escape the curse as explained in the second season.

Inside Out

Emotions are magical stuff. The characters of Inside out aren’t part of the show and none of the locations would exist. I suppose we could see a version of the inner mind in an episode of this imaginary version of the show, but I don't think so.

The Good Dinosaur

Wait… did Pixar make this movie? Is this real? I kid. I’d just make another realm in the Enchanted Forest where dinosaurs still exist and Arlo would be a background character here. Living in this realm would be Tarzan.

Coco

The world of the dead would be another magical realm that the cast could potentially visit. I’d imagine they’d use it to resurrect a character that died in an earlier story arc.

Onward

Since the whole gimmick is that it’s fantasy rules in a modern world, the magic of the concept disappears outside of that setting. I’d just make this an easter egg in the Enchanted Forest. Maybe bring the Pheonix Gem into play somewhere.

And that is all the Pixar Movies (so far) covered in how they would interact with the world of Once Upon A Time had they been included. I’d love to know what your ideas would be for this concept! Put your thoughts down in the comments below and until next time, thank you for joining me, have a great day, and remember to always be your best self.
